December, 2011

Greetings from Everyone at Trails West Outfitters...

The 2011 Outfitting and Hunting season is over and it was a GREAT year!  Once again we would like to thank everyone for the e-mails, and other inquires and it was good to visit with everyone this past year.

Over the past years, our elk camps have enjoyed a 75%-90% success rate, with a 100% opportunity.  This year was no exception; we sent 25 of 27 elk hunters home with nice bulls.  We also filled our six sheep hunters with great rams.  With a late spring due to heavy mountain snow and high water levels, we started the season on a dead run, but found wonderful forage for the wildlife and new river structures for great fishing.  Our sightseeing groups enjoyed the opportunity to view the high country vistas of the Greybull River and some spectacular wildlife settings in the early mornings and evenings.  We are starting our 2012 bookings and expect a great summer and fall with many return clients coming back to the Greybull River.

The time to apply for a Wyoming Elk License is near. The 2012 application period for a Wyoming Elk License is January 1 through January 31, 2012. The results of the draw will be available February 28, 2012.  If you wish to book a hunt this year, once again we will fill out the license application for you and deliver the applications to Wyoming Game and Fish in Cheyenne on January 31, 2012.  A Booking Agreement is available for your convenience on the web site, or we can send one to you.  The Booking Agreement is all that we need to complete your license application.

As you know, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department has a preference point system for non-resident elk hunters.  Please note your options for application….

You can make an application (January 1 through January 31) for a 2012 Elk license and not purchase a preference point.  (Not Recommended)  You can apply (January 1 through January 31) for an Elk license for 2012, and purchase a preference point where if you are not successful in the draw for an Elk License, you will receive a preference point for the future.  Or, you can purchase a preference point and not apply for a 2012 license.  PLEASE  NOTE:  Purchasing a Preference Point only, has to be done July 1 through September 30, 2012.  If you don’t plan to hunt in 2012, but plan to hunt in the future, this is an important option to build preference points.  We cannot over emphasize the importance of acquiring preference points if you plan on hunting in Wyoming in the future.

We plan to once again offer late season cow elk hunts at an affordable rate.  A late season cow hunt is a great opportunity to put meat in the freezer and view abundant wintering wildlife.  Cow tags can be applied for from January 1 through January 31, and are usually available over the counter later in the year.

Please visit our web site at www.trailswestoutfitters.com, for current 2011 photos and more information about the camp and services offered.  Should you have any questions, feel free to call for additional information.  We look forward to assisting you with your wilderness adventures in 2012.

Happy Trails from Everyone at Trails West Outfitters……
